Is Mom + Entrepreneur an Equation that = Success?

By Patty Lennon, momgetsalife.com April 22, 2014
When I launched my first business four years ago I immediately submerged myself in the world of entrepreneurship. I subscribed to Inc., Entrepreneur and Success magazines. I listened to every audiobook I could get my hands on. I attended conferences that left me feeling like I could conquer the world...

But that feeling soon changed into total and complete overwhelm. I couldn’t keep up with everything I “should” do to be successful. One day I was listening to a success guru tell me to “go hard or go home” when a sickening thought hit me:

Maybe I can’t be successful AND be the kind of mom I want to be?

The more I listened to the “experts” the more I believed that the fact that I wanted to spend with my family (and sleep on occasion) was an indication that I was not as committed to success as the people I was learning from.

But something inside told me this couldn’t possibly be true. I knew there had to be women out there with successful businesses and a thriving personal life. I made it my mission to find them and learn from people who not only had the business success I wanted but the personal life I craved.

Eventually I found mentors that showed me I could have what I wanted. From there I learned how to succeed on my terms. I now have two thriving business AND spend time with my family AND sleep.

I want the same for every other mother out there.

Because I could never find events that honored my desire for both professional success and a healthy thriving personal life I decided to create one.

Each year I host the Mom Grows A Business Conference to ensure that every woman has space to learn and grow a business in a way that honors her desire to be successful AND a good human being, at the same time.

When I designed the conference I made sure it had all the things I wanted and needed as an attendee – amazing speakers I could relate to as a business owner and mother, healthy delicious foods, big beautiful rooms with windows and plenty of sunlight, a private suite for nursing mothers and of course wine and chocolate to finish out the day!

I love seeing the success stories that have come from the Mom Grows A Business Conference.  What I love more is that the women at our events hear one message: You are amazing. Success is possible on your terms. Honor your values.

I believe in the power of women entrepreneurs to shape this economy. I believe in your power to create a better world. You deserve support getting there.
